Where Beauty is Dangerous

When a British man bought a bunch of stargazer lillies from his local supermarket as a suprise for his wife, he had no idea there could be a problem. She loved them, but so did their 13 year-old Siamese, who brushed against the flowers, then licked the pollen from her fur. Within minutes, the cat became sick, and she died within hours, despite being rushed immediately to the vet.

Many beautiful, popular flowers (and even their leaves) are deadly to pets, including all varieties of lillies. The distraught man, along with Britain's RSPCA, has been working to launch a campaign that would have supermarkets and other floral suppliers label their flowers to alert consumers about which ones are toxic to animals.
